Hi all,

Wish you all Happy New year (Hindu New year)   It is celebrated throughout Maharashtra by Hindus. However, this festival is also celebrated in other parts of India by other names. When we are getting ready for this festival my little daughter came and asked me question: mom, “Why we are celebrating Gudi Padwa ? “, Strange na!

That time i thought how could i explain her in simple language so she can understand the importance of festival . Then i called my mother and asked her to explain me in simple language 😀  It is believed that on this day, Lord Brahma created the Universe(world) . So, devotees takes a sacred oil bath, which is considered auspicious. This day is also celebrated to mark the coronation ceremony of Lord Rama. Lord Rama returned to Ayodhya after spending fourteen years in exile.

Gudi Padwa Celebration :

Here is how Gudi Padwa preparations are done every year for welcoming the New Year.

  1. Cleansing House
  2. Shopping
  3. Decorating Main Door
  4.  Install Gudi : Gudi is prepared by taking a long stick, a nice cloth which is mainly red, green, yellow or pink in colour and a traditional Kalash. The colourful cloth is placed on stick in such a way that it appears like a flag. Kalash is placed inverted on the flag. After the preparation of basic Gudi, garlands, haldi-kumkum, rice etc; is offered to the Gudi and it is installed in front of the main gate.
  5. Worshiping Gudi
  6. Gudi Padwa Feast :Lots of delicious food items are prepared like halwa, puri, shrikhand, mithai on this day.

I hope she understood little a bit 😉 And Finally She got her new year Gift…she love it …:)
