Palak Dal Recipe

Hi All,

My today’s recipe is palak dal which is made with Palak (spinach) Toor dal (Split pigeon peas), mung dal (yellow lentils) and is neither too thick nor too thin and it can be eaten with rice or roti. This palak ki dal is made without tomato into it. Dal is a wonderful accompaniment for rice and is mostly a preferred dish.

Let us take a look at making this palak dal recipe and I hope it is liked by my blog readers. Before we start making this dal it is better to chop the fresh spinach leaves and keep them handy.

PREPARATION TIME : 10 MIN      COOK TIME : 20-30 MIN    SERVES : 2-3 

INGREDIENTS : 

  • Spinach (Palak)                            –     Large Bowl ( Chopped)
  • Toor dal(Split pigeon peas)      –     1/2 cup
  • Mung dal (yellow lentils)          –     1/2 cup
  • Ginger garlic paste                      –     1/2 tsp
  • Cumin seeds                                 –      1/2 tsp
  • Green chilli                                    –     2
  • Turmeric powder                         –      1/4 tsp
  • Garam Masala powder               –      1/4 tsp
  • Red chilli powder                        –      1/2 tsp
  • Asafoetida (hing)                         –     a pinch
  • Curry leaves
  • Coriander
  • Salt                                                    –   to taste

STEP BY STEP RECIPE WITH PICTURES :

Step 1 : Wash mung+ toor  dal. Add into a pressure cooker  with 1 glass of water, salt,             turmeric for 3-4 whistle over high flame.

Step 2 :   Wash the palak (spinach) and chop them and keep aside.

Step 3 :   Heat the oil in a pan on medium heat.Once hot add cumin seeds, green chilli, ginger garlic paste, Asafoetida (hing), curry leaves . Let them sizzle. Add chopped spinach. Mix well. Cook it for 1 minute or till it is wilted.

Step 4 :   Add red chilli powder, garam masala powder, salt. stir and cook for  2-3 min.

Step 5 :  When the palak softens and becomes dry  then add mashed dal. Mix well which is shown in the pic below.

Step 6 :   Add coriander,  1-2 cup of water to the dal (U can add more or less water depend on how much thick u want) . Simmer for a 6-7 minutes

Step 7 :  Now Ready to serve hot  palak dal with Rice, chapati(roti).
